Freedom to Read Week

Freedom to Read Week is an annual event that encourages Canadians to think about and reaffirm their commitment to intellectual freedom, which is guaranteed them under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Freedom to Read Week is organized by the Freedom of Expression Committee of the Book and Periodical Council.

Host Your Own Photo Contest
A great way to get people involved is to host a photo contest in your community or school. Ask participants to submit photos about freedom of expression, which could include photos of challenged books, Freedom to Read events, the Freedom to Read Week poster, people reading or anything that promotes the written word.

BookCrossing: Free a Challenged Book
To mark Freedom to Read Week, the Freedom of Expression Committee, in partnership with BookCrossing.com, has come up with a fun and innovative challenge for Canadians.
